Ever wonder why Seattle’s street layout is so messed up? The Seattle city street plan is a result of a disagreement between three guys: Maynard, Denny, and Boren. Denny and Boren wanted the streets in radials down to the Elliot bay shoreline, whereas Maynard preferred a grid based on the cardinal directions (like Chicago, NYC). The competition began, as each started building in their districts to their own preferences. When they met in the middle the plans overlapped, creating our clusterfuck of triangles and diagonal street. At least it isn’t as bad as Boston.
And you thought the other merkins were creepy. Pretty soon this bad boy’s eye is going to light up!
Craft night: Merkins
This is my favorite wallpaper job ever. #inscape open studios #seattle
A little beach exploration to lessen the sting of missing Boston! #pnw #nofilter
Super pumped about the new skills I learned today! My extremely patient friend taught me how to program a strip of LED’s to change colors. It’s really basic stuff, but it got me over the hump so now I can keep experimenting on my own. So excited to level up to microcontrollers!
No filters, just pure unadulterated Pacific Northwest goodness.
FIRST Robotics problems. #FRC #FIRST #robots
I’m so obsessed with my whimsical walls! #parachute #diy #ceiling
More parachute porn. See you guys later I’m going to go stare at the ceiling some more while I wait for my couchsurfer to arrive!
I completed my first upholstery project today! I recovered the seats of two cane chairs I found at value village for $5.99 with a chunk of fabric I dug out of the goodwill bins which probably cost $1. I think I need to buy a pressurized staple gun before I move onto the arm chairs, I can’t believe how sore my hand is from just this little project.
Sharing a couple action shots of me from me MCing the Mt. Vernon FIRST Robotics competition last weekend! There are still a few weeks of competitions left if any of you want to come volunteer with me! It’s a really great time; the kids are super bright, full of enthusiasm, mind-blowingly creative, and totally stoked on technology. (More info here: http://www.usfirst.org/community/volunteers)
